Japan Announces Updates to PAC List, 5 Substances Removed and 12 Added

According to the Gazette on April 1, 2024, Japan added 12 substances to the List of Priority Assessment Chemical Substances (PAC List) following the removal of 5 substances on March 29. This brings the total number of PACs to 225.

Japan to List NPE as Class II Specified Chemical Substance

Japan released a public consultation to designate poly(oxyethylene) nonylphenyl ether (NPE) as Class II Specified Chemical Substance under the Chemical Substance Control Law (CSCL). The public consultation will remain open for feedback until November 26 of this year.

According to the Gazette on April 3, 2023, Japan added six substances to the List of Priority Assessment Chemical Substances (PACs) following the removal of six substances on March 31. The total number in the List is 218 now.

Japan to Ban 56 PFOA-related Compounds

On July 7, 2022, the Central Environment Council under Japanese Ministry of Economy issued a notice that 56 perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)-related compounds will be designated as Class I Specified Chemical Substances controlled under Chemical Substance Control Law (CSCL) after the public consultation in March 2022 and 4 rounds of discussions within the Council afterwards.

Japan MHLW will listen to the views and feedback from stakeholders on the Implementation of Health Hazard Prevention Measures for 236 Substances Including 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate from 10:00 to 12:00 on August 30. The deadline for submitting comments is 12:00 on August 27.
