South Korea Publishes 16,988 Pre-registered Substances under K-REACH

So far, a total of 185,728 pre-registration applications were submitted for 16,988 chemical substances, accounting for more than 38% of the existing chemical substances circulated in South Korea.

Classification and labeling information for 11 previously published toxic substances and 1 restricted substance will be updated. 45 substances will be designated as new toxic chemicals, provided with classification and labelling information.

South Korea Designates 31 New Toxic Chemicals

31 new substances were listed as toxic chemical substances after hazard evaluation under K-REACH. They are still considered new chemical substances in South Korea and require new chemical registration other than the original registrants. Transitional measures were provided for control of these toxic substances under CCA regulation.

K-REACH Registration of 332 Substances Needs Speeding Up
Jul 17, 2020
On July 1, 2020, K-REACH Helpdesk issued a list of 332 existing chemical substances (including 17 CMRs). These substances should be subject to joint registration by the first registration deadline of December 31, 2021 according to their pre-registration volumes. However, the formulation and management of corresponding consortium has not been smooth. Some substances are not yet have lead registrants.

179,793 pre-registration applications were submitted for 16,905 chemical substances. More than 11% of the pre-registered substances are manufactured or imported over 1,000 tonnes per year.

South Korea Provides Supports to SMEs for K-REACH Registration of 82 Substances
May 18, 2020
On May 8, 2020, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) issued a list of 82 existing chemical substances[1]. The small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in South Korea who will finish K-REACH registration of these substances by 2021 are eligible for MoE’s support program. The MoE will offer supports throughout their K-REACH registration process.

South Korea Supplements 15 Substances into Existing Chemical Substance Inventory

South Korea’s MoE officially listed 15 chemical substances (KE-19-0001~KE-19-0015) into the Existing Chemicals Inventory (KECI) by MoE Announcement No. 2020-76 on April 14, 2020. They were domestically circulated in South Korea before February 2, 1991.
