Singapore to Enhance Control of E-Waste

From January 1, 2025, companies that import or export e-waste, or whose e-waste transits through Singapore will be required to carry out the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) procedure specified under the Basel Convention.

Singapore Takes Decisive Steps to Eliminate Fire-fighting Foams Containing PFAS
Mar 20, 2024
Starting from January 1, 2026, Singapore will phase out the import and use of firefighting foams containing PFOA and PFOS, including their salts and related compounds. After January 1, 2026, companies can continue using fire-fighting foams containing PFAS if trace contaminant concentrations are below their respective threshold limits, and disposal must be done through licensed Toxic Industrial Waste Collectors by the NEA.

Singapore to Regulate 26 Hazardous Substances from August 2023

On February 17, 2023, Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) issued a circular to announce the adoption of the proposed control of 26 chemicals as hazardous substances (HS) under the Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA) and its supporting regulation - EPM (HS) Regs. It will take effect on August 21, 2023.

In late 2022, Singapore notified WTO of the Draft Fire Safety (Petroleum & Flammable Materials) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 2022, which proposed to regulate 12 chemicals and precursors as flammable materials under the FS (P&FM) Regs from July 31, 2023.
