South Korea Delays New Restrictions for Strontium Chromate in Coatings (Updated on Dec 20, 2022)

South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) is consulting until December 4, 2022 on a draft amendment to the Restricted Chemical Substances List by MoE Notice No. 2022-627. As proposed, the ministry will delay the implementation date of the new restrictions for a chromium (6+) compound – strontium chromate (CAS No.7789-06-2).

South Korea Updates Hazard Assessment Results of Registered Chemicals under K-REACH (Updated on Dec 21, 2022)

On November 22, 2022, South Korea’s National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) issued a notice (NIER Announcement No.2022-474), seeking public comments on the updates of hazard assessment results of new and existing chemical substances that were previously registered under K-REACH. Comments are welcome before December 12, 2022.

South Korea Designates 14 New Toxic Chemical Substances and Updates GHS Classification List

On December 7, 2022, South Korea’s National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) issued two notices (NIER Notice No.2022-80 and NIER Notice No.2022-81) to make public the amendments to the Toxic Chemical Substances List (TCSL) and the GHS Classification List. The amendments took effect immediately.

South Korea Simplifies Import Requirements for 13 Restricted Toxic Chemicals

As per the circular released on November 8 of 2022, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) adopted the amendments to the Enforcement Decree of Chemical Control Act to relieve industry compliance burden caused by duplicative management. From November 15 of 2022, importers of 13 restricted toxic substances can omit submissions of ‘Notification of Import’ if they have obtained the ‘Permission for Import’.

South Korea to Allow Non-disclosure of Registration/Notification Number under K-REACH for CBI Concerns

Considering that registration/notification number under K-REACH could be used to search for relevant information that has granted CBI protection under other laws, the MoE proposed to omit the approval process for non-disclosure of the registration/notification number under certain conditions.
