The GB 20602 was referred to and evolved from the GHS standard in its compiling process by the AQSIQ and SAC, however,  there are some minor distinctions between them.

It detailed the classification, precautionary labeling and precautionary statements of chemicals hazardous to the aquatic environment.

• explaining the determination and classification processes for the hazard to aquatic environment, and classifying this hazard class into acute aquatic toxicity and chronic aquatic toxicity, including 3 sub-categories for acute toxicity and 4 sub-categories for chronic toxicity;

• For each of the category, elements of the precautions such as diagrams, designations and hazardous statement have been demonstrated;

• setting collocation of the precaution elements;

• providing precaution statements for the substance or mixture, such as physical hazard;

• precautions of health hazards from misuses and exposures;

• measures for accidental treatment;

• Emergency  treatment;

• measures for environmental protection and disposals;

• specific statements for the consumers.
