To properly address the issue of scientific plastic waste management, the Plastic Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 were notified by Ministry of Environment and Forests. On March 18, 2016,  the Plastic Waste  Management Rules, 2016 was published by the Government and was amended in 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
