The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) adopted the standard DJS 990:2024 on December 30, 2024, which officially came into effect on June 1, 2025. This marks a new stage in Jordan’s chemical management and further promotes seamless integration with international markets. The new standard deeply integrates the 8th revised edition of the United Nations GHS and the EU CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), stipulating specific labeling requirements for chemical substances circulating in Jordan. Referred to as the “Middle Eastern version of the chemical passport”, enterprises must promptly upgrade their labeling for compliance, as failure to do so may lead to risks such as customs clearance obstacles and market access bans.
