This standard applies to the classification and labeling for self-heating substances and mixtures. The current version is an update of its initial one published on 12 Oct 2006, based on Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, ST/SG/AC. 10/31/Rev.2 (GHS Rev.2 released in 2007).
A self-heating substance or mixture is a solid or liquid substance or mixture, other than a pyrophoric liquid or solid, which, by reaction with air and without energy supply, is liable to self-heat. This substance or mixture differs from a pyrophoric liquid or solid in that it will ignite only when in large amounts (kg) and after long periods of time (hours or days).
