The Interim Provisions for the supervision and administration of major hazard installations of hazardous chemicals (SAWS Order 40 of 2011) was issued on 5 August 2011 by the SAWS and has come into force as of 1 December 2011.
This rule aims to regulate companies engaged in the production, storage, use and operation of hazardous chemicals (hereinafter as HC companies) in their activities of identification, assessment, filing and recording, cancellation and other related safety management regarding their responsible major hazard installations. The major hazard installations for hazardous chemicals are defined as units which engage in long-term or temporary production, storage, use or operations of hazardous chemicals and where the quantity of hazardous chemicals is equal or greater than the threshold quantity.
The regulation formulates important content about the identification and assessment methods, safety management measures, legal liabilities and the supervision and examination items of local authorities of work safety.
