On May 27, 2019, the MHLW and the METI published the JIS Z 7252-2019 (Classification of Chemicals Based on GHS) and JIS Z 7253-2019 (Hazard Communication of Chemicals Based on GHS - Labelling and Safety Data Sheet) to replace the JIS Z 7252-2014 and JIS Z 7253-2012. The two standards took effect immediately upon their release, and are designed to align with UN GHS Rev. 6. Notably, in JIS Z 7252-2019, desensitized explosives are added as a new hazard class, and pyrophoric gases are added as a new hazard category under the hazard class of flammable gases.
