China Seeks Public Input on Mercury-Added Products Introduced under Minamata Convention on Mercury

On January 17, 2024, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) initiated a public consultation on mercury-added products introduced under Annex A to the Minamata Convention on Mercury. These products were introduced through Decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury at its fifth meeting. Deadline for comments is January 31, 2024.

China Consults on Mandatory Standard for Cleaning Products (Updated on August 28, 2023)

On June 16, 2023, State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and Standardized Administration published a notice to consult on a draft national standard — GB XXXXX—XXXX Safety and technical standards for cleaning products. It is set to replace the existing GB/T 26396—2011 Technical specification for safety of soaps and detergents and elevate from a recommended standard to a mandatory one. Public comments will be accepted until August 16, 2023.
