EU Introduces RoHS Exemption for Cadmium and Lead in Recovered PVC
Feb 02, 2024
On January 10, 2024, European Commission published the Directive (EU) 2024/232 to amend the RoHS Directive (Directive 2011/65/EU). The amendment introduces an exemption for cadmium and lead in plastic profiles in electrical and electronic windows and doors containing recovered rigid polyvinyl chloride. The amendment shall enter into force on January 30, 2024. Member States need to apply the new rules from August 1, 2024.

EU Council and Parliament Strike Deal on CLP Revision

In a recent development, the Council and the European Parliament have reached a provisional agreement regarding the amendment of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on the classification, labeling, and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation). The CLP revision aims to better identify and classify hazardous chemicals, improve communication on chemical hazards and address legal gaps and high levels of non-compliance.

ECHA’s Investigation Finds Toxic Chemicals Present in Childcare Products

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) 's investigation, drawing on information from 48 different sources, shows that substances which are carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction (CMR) may be present in childcare products (articles). Metals like cobalt and lead, along with phthalates like DEHP, are the most common CMR substances found in childcare products.

Judgment by the General Court of the European Union on the Classification of Titanium Dioxide Will Be Appealed
Mar 14, 2023
The European Commission has informed the Titanium Dioxide Manufacturers Association (TDMA) that it has appealed the judgment of the General Court of the European Union of 23 November 2022 concerning titanium dioxide (TiO2). The French Government has also announced that it will appeal in a press release published on 13 February 2023. The European Commission is the Defendant and France has the right, as a Member State, to bring an appeal.
