On July 9, 2025, the European Union notified the WTO a draft amendment to its Toy Safety Directive (2009/48/EC). The revision specifically address cobalt. While generally prohibited, cobalt is permitted in electrical components, stainless steel toys, and certain non-swallowable/non-inhalable NdFeB magnets. However, its use in make-up, 3D pens, paints, and textiles remains restricted due to safety concerns.
