New Zealand Adopts HSNO Amendment Bill to Simplify Hazchem Assessment Process

On October 25, 2022, New Zealand’s Environment Committee conducted the third reading of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (Hazardous Substances Assessment) Amendment Bill, which was introduced in July 2021 to streamline hazardous substances assessment and reassessment process. The Bill received the Royal Assent on October 31 and came into force from November 2022.

New Zealand’s Environment Committee Makes Recommendations on Amendments to HSNO Act

New Zealand Consults on the Reassessment of Two Kinds of Hazardous Substances

There are two public consultations open for submission on the New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) website now, both of which concern the reassessment of hazardous substances. One consultation is for the reassessment of benzalkonium chlorides (BACs), this reassessment has already finished, and the proposed changes are currently subject to public consultation. The second public consultation has been issued to gather data and information on hydrogen cyanamide containing products.
