Australia Makes Videos to Educate Stakeholders on AICIS Implementation

Australia Consults on Proposed AICIS Fees and Changes to AICS

Australia began seeking comments on the proposed charging arrangements for AICIS. Another consultation is under way to inform the removal of non-industrial chemicals from the AICS. On January 31, 2020, the Australian government opened a consultation [1] on proposed fees and charges for the country’s new chemical regulatory framework, the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS).

Australia to Adopt GHS Revision 7 from July 2020

On January 10, 2020, the Safe Work Australia (SWA) announced in a press release [1] that its members have agreed to practice the 7th revised edition of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for management of workplace hazardous chemicals. Earlier in July 2019, the agency opened a consultation on the proposal to move to GHS Revision 7 (ChemLinked news [2]).

Australia Finalizes General Rules and Transitional Rules for AICIS

To inform and facilitate the upcoming implementation of its new chemical regulatory framework, namely Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), the Australian government has been fleshing out relevant supporting rules and legislations. In early December, 2019, it issued a notice, announcing that the Industrial Chemicals (General) Rules [1] and the Transitional Rules [2] have been finalized, and the final draft of the Industrial Chemicals Categorization Guidelines [3] is available as well.

Australia Passes Remaining 3 Bills for AICIS and Consults on 2019 Draft General Rules

Following the approval of three bills in February, the remaining bills for the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) passed through the Senate on April 2 and received Royal Assent on April 3. Thus far, all bills relating to the new scheme have become law.
