Australia Makes Videos to Educate Stakeholders on AICIS Implementation

The Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) is scheduled to take effect starting from July 1, 2020 to replace the existing National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) as an overarching regulatory framework for introduction of industrial chemicals into the country.

Previously, with a view to facilitating the stakeholders’ understanding of the new scheme, the Australian government planned to hold a series of information sessions. However, due to the mounting number of cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the sessions are now replaced with educational videos. The videos will cover a range of key topics on the AICIS, including:

Ø  A general review of the journey to AICIS

Ø  A general overview of transitions

Ø  How to categorize chemical introductions

Ø  Assessed introductions

Ø  Evaluations

Ø  Searching the Inventory and understanding listings

Ø  Confidentiality of information

Ø  Reporting and record keeping

Ø  Compliance monitoring and enforcement

Ø  Use of animal test data

So far, the first two videos are available on the AICIS guidance hub. ChemLinked is also planning a webinar to get you prepared for the scheme. We encourage you to leave comments on this page or send emails to [email protected] to let us know what you want to learn.
