Australia SWA Consults on Proposal to Adopt GHS 7

On July 3, 2019, the Safe Work Australia (SWA) opened a consultation on the proposal to adopt an updated version of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for management of workplace hazardous chemicals.[1] The consultation is set to end on July 28, 2019.

Japan Revises Chemical Classification and Labelling Standards Based on UN GHS Rev. 6.

Japanese Official Gazette published the latest version of standards for GHS classification and labelling and SDS preparation. The revisions are made to align with UN GHS Rev.6.

South Korea Consults on Revised OSHA Enforcement Rules

Four OSHA’s enforcement rules were revised and the drafts are open for public comments until 3 June. Amendments focus on increased liability for company representatives and contractors, prohibition on sub-contracting high risk work, SDS submission, etc.

38 substances have been newly classified as toxic and provided with classification and labeling information. Classification and labeling information has been updated for three previously published substances. All these substances are still considered new chemicals and require registration under K-REACH.

Hazard Class for Desensitized Explosives to be Incorporated into China GHS
Apr 10, 2019
On Apr 4th, 2019, China’s Standardization Administration (SAC) announced on its website that 44 compulsory national standards (GB standard) were to be revised or formulated in one or two years. As scheduled, a new GB standard concerning the classification and labeling of desensitized explosives will be formulated by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in 12 months.
