On Aug 1st, Tianjin city government issued Standard on Industrial VOC Emission. This was the first comprehensive municipal standard on industrial VOC emission in China.
The compulsive standard stipulates the requirement on emission rate and concentration, monitoring methods, leak control on 11 concerned industries, including petroleum refining, coating, plastic production, ferrous metal smelting and so on. The goal is to reduce 18% VOC emission by 2015.
As a precursor of aerosol particles and ozone, VOC is one of the main cause and components of the dust-haze and photochemical pollution in cities. Tianjin municipality is directly under the central government, so this standard is a significant sign of China’s determination of controlling emission and improving air quality. It also implies the future regulatory trend concerning VOC emission industries.
