South Korea to Introduce Microplastic Control Act

South Korea to comprehensively manage the usage and emission of microplastics by introducing the new microplastic control mechanism. Non-compliance products that may bring risks of exposing microplastics to the human and environment are prohibited from import and manufacture.

South Korea Revises the Persistent Organic Pollutants Control Act

On June 10, 2022, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) issued an announcement to make public the revision to the Persistent Organic Pollutants Control Act to further clarify the control conditions of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and strengthen the penalties against violations. The revision will come into effect on June 11, 2023.

South Korea Requires Submission for Recyclability Data of Packaging Materials before April 15

Enterprises subject to recyclability shall report the delivery and import data to MOE before April 15, 2022. South Korea Revises Packing Material Recyclability Rating Standard

MOE adjusted the recyclability level of "composite material containers and trays" and "composite material film and sheet". Manufacturers or importers of such materials need to re-conduct an assessment of the packaging material's recyclability level.

South Korea to Strengthen the Management of Hazardous Substances in EEPs
Dec 04, 2020
To establish a preventive management system for international hazardous substances, MoE proposes to amend the enforcement decree of Act on Resource Circulation of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Vehicles. Specified measures include expanding the regulatory scope of products containing these hazardous substances and adding hazardous substances to be restricted.
