China Proposes to Approve Eight New Varieties of Food-related Products

PET plastic materials and articles with silicon dioxide coatings made from the monomers hexamethyldisiloxane and hexamethyldisilazane should not be used for irradiated food, or contact with infant and young children food or breast milk.

On June 29, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) opened eight new varieties of food-related products to public feedback, including one new variety of substance applied in food contact materials (FCM), one new variety of FCM additive, five FCM additives with expanded application scope, and one new variety of disinfectant raw material. Any comment shall be sent back to CFSA prior to July 21, 2021.

For disinfectant products containing this substance, the usage scope and method shall be indicated in the label and usage instruction to ensure that the   concentration of the substance in the solution meets the following   requirements:

1. The content of peroxyoctanoic acid used in the surface of tools, equipment or food packaging materials that are in direct contact with food shall not   exceed 122 mg/ L;

2. The content of peroxyoctanoic acid used in tableware shall not exceed 52 mg/ L;
