Identifying and Assessing Major Hazard Installation of Dangerous Goods at Port

On 2 May 2013, with the purpose of safely handling dangerous goods stored at port, the Ministry of Transport released the Administrative Measures for Supervision on Major Hazard Installation of Dangerous Goods at Port (Interim), which requires port operators to identify, assess, rank, file the record as well as management of the MHI.

The content and structure of this provisionally implemented Measures is very similar to the Provisions for the Supervision and Administration of Major Hazard Installations of Hazardous Chemicals (see chemlinked news on 14 Oct 2011). Under the provisions, companies engaged in the production, storage, use and operation of hazardous chemicals also need to identify and manage major hazard installation.

Both port operators and hazardous chemicals companies will determine the MHI of dangerous goods or hazardous chemicals according to GB 18218-2009.
