Japan Prohibits Manufacture and Import of Organic Dyes Releasing PCB over 50 PPM

On 10 May 2013, Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) reported that four organic dyes are found to unintentionally produce polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) beyond the international standard 50 PPM. Companies involved are required to stop the manufacture, import and shipment of these products as well as recall those unsold.

Last February, several organic dyes in circulation in Japan were exposed to release excessive PCB involuntarily, a persistent organic pollutant toxic to the environment and carcinogenic to the human being. Due to the toxicity, the manufacture and import of those dyes will be banned. Related companies are obliged to report to the METI if their products have the same problem. Until now,  25 products in total are under control.
