The U.S. EPA has proposed a TSCA significant new use rule for certain mixed metal oxide cathode active materials used in batteries, restricting manufacture, processing, and use through strict controls on exposure, emissions, disposal, labeling, and hazard communication.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unveiled a significant new use rule (SNUR) proposal targeting a type of Mixed Metal Oxide (MMO) Cathode Active Material (CAM) used in battery application. Published in the Federal Register on April 24, 2026, this proposed rule aims to mitigate potential risks associated with these materials by imposing stringent restrictions on their manufacturing, processing, and use.
