July 14, 2025 – The National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) has released the "FY2024 GHS Classification Results by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of the Environment" on its official website.
In this release, 43 new substances have been classified, and 143 existing substances have undergone re-classification or revision.
When examining the re-classifications and revisions for the 143 substances, please pay special attention to the following points:

Items where the original classifications remain unchanged are indicated with a “-” symbol.
To check the complete GHS classification for a target substance, it is recommended to refer to the comprehensive GHS classification results provided by NITE.
The government’s GHS classification initiative is conducted annually by various ministries, and NITE compiles and disseminates the results through its official website. Typically, the results are published between June and September of the following year.
The GHS classification results made available by the Japanese government are intended to be utilized as a reference by businesses when creating labels or Safety Data Sheets (SDS). However, it is not mandatory to include these classification results exactly as they are in labels or SDS intended for use within Japan.
These classification results can be freely quoted or reproduced when creating labels or SDS based on GHS guidelines. However, please note that the responsibility for the content of labels or SDS created using such references lies solely with the creator.
It should be noted that this GHS classification is conducted based on the Classification Guidance, the sources of information mentioned therein, and the classification and judgment criteria specified. It is also acceptable to use other literature or experimental data for classification purposes, and it is not problematic to list contents differing from these classification results on labels or SDS if based on such alternative resources.
