South Korea Designates 19 New Toxic Chemical Substances

On June 22, 2021, South Korea's National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) officially listed 19 toxic chemical substances (Given No. 2021-1-1038~2021-1-1056) into the Toxic Chemical Substances List (TCSL) by NIER Announcement No.2021-63. They were registered and found toxic after the hazard evaluation under K-REACH.

South Korea Consults on Revised K-REACH Enforcement Decree

South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) issued draft amendments to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemical Substances (hereafter referred to as K-REACH Enforcement Decree) on June 3, 2021 by MoE Notice No.2021-420. The public consultation will end on July 3, 2021.

17,096 Substances Pre-registered under Korea REACH

On April 9, 2021, South Korea's Ministry of Environment (MoE) published the updated list of pre-registered substances under K-REACH. So far, a total of 190,721 pre-registration applications have been submitted for 17,096 chemical substances, of which 78 are CMR substances. About 11% of the pre-registered substances are manufactured or imported over 1,000 tonnes per year.

K-REACH Amendments Approved to Tighten Downstream Supervision

South Korea’s National Assembly approved on April 13, 2021 the amendments of the Act on Registration, Evaluation and etc. of Chemicals (K-REACH) as Law No. 18034. The amendments mainly relate to tightening the supervision on downstream users and sellers of chemical substances that have not been registered or notified or have not obtained confirmation for registration exemptions.
