On July 29, 2022, China’s Solid Waste and Chemical Management Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE-SCC) held a virtual forum to provide an overview of the implementation status of the Measures for the Environmental Management Registration of New Chemical Substances (a.k.a. MEE Order No.12) and address the problems enterprises encountered in the compliance work, especially the issues regarding record notification of polymers.

China Outlines Action Plan to Control New Pollutants

China Steps Up Efforts in Source Control over Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals

The Chinese General Office of the State Council officially released the approved Action Plan for New Pollutants Treatment, according to Notice No.15 of 2022 issued on May 24, 2022, which vows to improve the China’s new pollutants treatment capacity significantly by 2025. The Plan was drafted to solicit public comments in October of 2021, which had attracted widespread attention from the industry.

17,263 Substances Pre-registered under Korea REACH
May 06, 2022
On March 31, 2022, South Korea's Ministry of Environment (MoE) published the updated list of pre-registered substances under K-REACH. So far, a total of 212,992 pre-registration applications were submitted for 17,263 chemical substances, of which 76 are CMR substances. About 9% of the pre-registered substances are manufactured or imported over 1,000 tonnes per year.

On May 4, 2022, the Australian Government published a notice to announce the variation of specific information requirements of 1H-1,4,7-triazonine, octahydro-1,4,7-trimethyl- (CAS No. 96556-05-7) according to Section 93 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019.

30 Apr 2022: Deadline for Annual Reporting of China New Chemical Substances

China’s Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Center (SCC) issued a notice1 on January 22, 2022 to notify certificate holders to submit annual report of 2021 through the online submission system2 before April 30, 2022. There’s no need to mail the original paper version.

Thailand Revises TIS 685 for Toy Safety

On March 25, 2022, Thailand’s Ministry of Industry issued on the Government Gazette1 the revised standard TIS 685-1:2562 (2019)2 for toys safety. It will come into force on September 22, 2022, replacing TIS 685 (1997).

South Korea Simplifies Data Requirements under K-REACH

On March 15, 2022, the South Korean Ministry of Environment (MoE) issued an announcement to bring forward the implementation of some rules that were proposed in the amendments to K-REACH Enforcement Rules.
