17,380 Substances Pre-registered under K-REACH

On April 12, 2023, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) published the updated list of pre-registered substances under K-REACH. As of March 31, 2023, a total of 226,520 pre-registration applications were submitted for 17,380 chemical substances.

Korean MoEL Publishes New Chemicals Registered and Assessed in 2023 Q1

In March of 2023, China issued draft amendments to ‘GB 6944 Classification and code of dangerous goods’ and ‘GB 12268 List of dangerous goods’ for public consultation. South Korea published a notice to urge enterprises handling Group B biocidal active substances to speed up dossier preparation and submission for approval under K-BPR. Two batches of 1,469 hazardous substances are proposed to mandate SDS and labelling requirements under Japan ISHL. Thailand imposed a destruction order on PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related compounds. Australia restricted the introduction or use of two POPs.

South Korea Revises K-REACH to Add Rules for Reporting Changes of Priority Management Substances Contained in Products

On January 3, 2023, by Ordinance No.19172, the amendments to South Korea’s Act on Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemicals (K-REACH) were made public. Rules for reporting changes of substances subject to priority management contained in products have been added to K-REACH, which will take effect on January 4, 2024.

South Korea Delays New Restrictions for Strontium Chromate in Coatings (Updated on Dec 20, 2022)

South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) is consulting until December 4, 2022 on a draft amendment to the Restricted Chemical Substances List by MoE Notice No. 2022-627. As proposed, the ministry will delay the implementation date of the new restrictions for a chromium (6+) compound – strontium chromate (CAS No.7789-06-2).

South Korea Designates 14 New Toxic Chemical Substances and Updates GHS Classification List

On December 7, 2022, South Korea’s National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) issued two notices (NIER Notice No.2022-80 and NIER Notice No.2022-81) to make public the amendments to the Toxic Chemical Substances List (TCSL) and the GHS Classification List. The amendments took effect immediately.
