Failure Rate of Food Contact Products Hit Record High in 2018
May 05, 2019
Radom inspection by SAMR showed 4.4% of food contact products were found not compliant. During GAC sampling in 2018, imported food contact materials demonstrated the lowest failure rate in recorded history at just 2.9%.

China SAMR Unveiled 2018 Food Related Product National Sampling Results

Plastic food related products were subject to the highest sampling rate in the 2018 national sampling campaign and achieved a satisfactory grade. Products with high disqualification rate will be subject to more stringent supervision in follow-up inspection, including melamine tableware and paper cups.

China NHC Approves 8 New Varieties of Food Related Products

Some new food related products approved this time are subject to application scope restrictions in food contact materials and articles for infant and young children food. The application scope of “Terephthalic acid, polymer with 1,4:3,6-dianhydro-D-glucitol, 4-cyclohexanedimethanol and 1,2-ethanediol” has been extended to FCM contacting infant and young children food.

Japan to Implement Positive List System for Food Contact Materials

Japan will introduce a positive list to regulate FCM instead of the negative list currently in use. The implementation date is still uncertain and no positive list has been published yet. In the interim synthetic resin will be a high priority regulatory target.
