New Food Contact Material Standards Pose Considerable Challenges to China Food Industry

Numerous new standards regulating the safety of food contact material and related products were released by NHFPC in late 2016. The majority of these new standards took effect 19 April 2017. The new standards elevate technical criteria in food inspection and oversight, by further aligning with internationally endorsed testing methodology and working mechanism.

China Food Safety Standards: 32 Mandatory Food Standards Changed to Recommended Standards

On Mar. 23, 2017, Standardization Administration of China and AQSIQ co-announced that 32 national food safety standards for mandatory implementation will be changed to recommended standards. The food categories involved include wine, beer, oil products, jelly, soybean sauce, vinegar, as well as certain types of food contact materials.

N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis(2-hydroxypropyl) dipamide has passed the technical review of CFSA under China NHFPC and after successful public consultation will be approved as a new food contact additive used in coating.

China Imports: Increasing Failure Ratio of Imported Food Contact Products

According to the white paper of “2015 China Imported Food Contact Product Quality Status” released by AQSIQ on May 17, 2016, 8,331 batches of imported food contact products failed CIQ quarantine and inspection in 2015 with a failure percentage high of 7.71%, the highest seen in five years.
