Major Revisions of GB 31604.1-2015 General Rules for Migration Test of Food Contact Materials and Articles (Draft)
Food simulant
Compared with the old version, the draft adds dry food as a new category for food simulant, and the principle of selecting the dry food simulant is included accordingly.
Based on the characteristics of Chinese dietary, the competent authority adjusted the table A.1 Food Category and the Selection of Corresponding Food Simulants with reference to the food classification system of national food safety standards. For instance, food simulant corresponding to soybean milk is changed from 20% alcohol to 50% alcohol.
Migration test
The correction of migration test results is more detailed. The previous provisions on result correction in various clauses are now incorporated into one chapter. It clearly defined that the specific migration in food or food simulants should not exceed 60 mg / kg before using fat correction factor for correction. Besides, there are more new requirements regarding the selection of migration test conditions. For example, when it comes to the migration tests of food contact materials subject to microwave oven heating, the condition for acid food simulant should be 100 ℃, 15 min, and that for ethanol food simulant should be reflow temperature, 15 min.
Selection of Migration Test Results is added as a new chapter, covering the original chapter 5.1.2 regarding the principle of result evaluation of reusable products with further supplement, for example, the new chapter stipulates that potassium permanganate consumption and heavy metals (PB) were only tested once. Regulations on how to use screening results and alternative test results are also added in this chapter.
Terms and definition
Three terms including “migration test”, “screening test” and “chemical solvent substitution test” are optimized to solve the problems occurred during the practical application of the old version.
