China GLP: 9 National Standards Pass Expert Review

In Nov 2014, nine national chemical standards were reviewed by an expert committee held by TC251/SC1 in Beijing. 32 experts attended the conference and approved the standards after an extended deliberation period.

Among the 9 standards, 3 concern chemical toxicological testing methods:

  • Chemicals - Extended One-Generation Reproductive Toxicity Study. This can be considered as a replacement of OECD Test No. 443: Extended One-Generation Reproductive Toxicity Study.

  • Chemicals - Embryotoxicity-Embryonic Stem Cell Test. This can be considered as a replacement of ECVAM INVITTOX No. 113.

  • Chemicals - Embryotoxicity Testing in Post-implantation Embryo Culture. This is a replacement of ECVAM DB-ALM INVITTOX No. 123.

5 ecotoxicology test methods of chemicals:

  • Chemicals - Aerobic Mineralization in Surface Water – Simulation Biodegradation Test. This is a replacement of OECD Test No. 309.

  • Chemicals - Lemna sp. Growth Inhibition Test. This is a replacement of OECD Test No. 221.

  • Chemicals - Inherent Biodegradability in Soil Test. This functions as OECD Test No. 304A.

  • Chemicals - Fish Assay for Oestrogenic and Androgenic Activity, and Aromatase Inhibition. This is the counterpart of OECD Test No. 230.

  • Chemicals - Fish Short Term Reproduction Assay. This is the counterpart of OECD Test No. 229.

The last standard is General Principles for Risk Assessment of Chemicals.

These nine standards pose detail requirements on the test methods of chemicals. They are expected to be released soon and play important roles in standardizing chemical test facilities OECD GLP management.
