China Releases the 2021 List of Air Transport Dangerous Goods

On March 30, 2021, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CACC) published the 2021 List of Air Transport Dangerous Goods [1] to replace its 2019 version. The List was first released in 2015 and has been updated every two years.

The List incorporated 3,477 (compared to 3,468 in the 2019 version) common dangerous goods in air transport which can be further divided into 3 groups according to the aviation safety requirements:

Ø  Group 1 dangerous goods are permitted for air transport on the condition of meeting relevant provisions. These dangerous goods, amounting to 3,194 in the List, are assigned and sorted by the UN sequence numbers or ID numbers.

Ø  Group 2 dangerous goods are prohibited from air transport in normal circumstances but could be carried by air if they meet relevant requirements. There are 2 kinds of such dangerous goods and they are not assigned a UN number.

Ø  Group 3 dangerous goods are prohibited from air transport under any circumstances, as indicated in the columns of “class or division”, “subsidiary risk” and “packing group”. There are 281 such entries sorted by alphabetical order of the English names as they are not assigned a UN number. (Notably, in addition to the listed ones, any substances which are explosive, highly reactive, and flammable or emit heat or toxic, corrosive or flammable gas or steam are forbidden to be transported by air under any circumstances.)

In addition, it should be noted that names in bold are proper shipping names. For those marked with asterisks, the technical name/chemical name of the goods should be added during transport.
