China’s Sweeping Reform of National Standards to Affect Numerous Industries

On Sep 26th 2014, the Standardization Administration of China issued a notice detailing pending amendments or new implementation of hundreds of national standards.

This recent announcement details the first batch of amendments and implementations of new Chinese national standards revised and formulated in 2014. The announcements cover a total of 1354 national standards including

  • 932 new standards

  • 422 revisions

  • 133 new mandatory standards

  • 1210 recommended standards

  • 11 technical guidance documents.

There are 3 national standards concerning the coating industry, which are Water-based Wood Coatings for Decoration of Children’s Bedrooms, Measurement of Conductivity and Electrical Resistance of Varnish and Colored Coatings, and Measurement of Asbestos in Coatings.

Besides affecting the national standards for China’s coating industry, the plan also involves the petroleum, cosmetics, electrical, pesticides and many other industries.
