Colombia Launches First National Inventory of Industrial Chemicals

Colombia’s first National Inventory of Industrial Chemicals offers public access to a detailed, interactive database of over 4,400 registered chemicals.

In November, Colombia officially released its first National Inventory of Industrial Chemicals. The inventory, published on the National Information System on Industrial Chemical Substances (INSQUI), is now accessible as a public database containing 4,473 registered chemical substances.

Under Decree No. 1630/2021, companies were required to register any hazardous chemical imported or produced in quantities above 100 kg/year between 2021-2023 by May 30, 2025, while substances meeting the same threshold in 2024 had until September 30, 2025 to comply.

INSQUI visualization dashboard features four specialized dashboards:

  1. Primary and secondary uses of registered substances

  2. Headquarter locations for registrants

  3. Hazards reported for registered substances

  4. Users

All registered substances can be identified by searching the CAS number or the IUPAC names. The list of registered chemicals can be viewed under the Dashboard for Users, as shown below:

insqui-datbase.pngFor any chemical not included in the inventory is classified as a “new substance”, which, when exceeding the quantities of 100kg/yr, the importer or manufacturer will have a maximum period of six months to notify the required information. If the "new substance" is considered prioritizing chemical, the importer or manufacturer must perform environmental or health risk assessment.
