Chile Unveils Its First National Chemical Inventory

Chile releases its first national chemical inventory of hazardous substances for industrial use.

Chile's Ministry of Environment (MMA) has just released its first national chemical inventory, which is the list of hazardous substances for industrial use notified during the year 2024 under its REACH-like regulation (Decree 57/2019).

With the promulgation of the list, any unlisted hazardous substance for industrial use is considered a new substance. It shall be notified prior to commercialization, importation or manufacture.

The next round of registration will kick off from February 9, 2025 until August 30, 2025. Substances for non-industrial use are required to be notified by the prescribed deadline.

The official list can be accessed here

Background

On February 9, 2021, Chile released Decree 57/2019 Regulations on Classification, Labeling, and Notification of Hazardous Substances and Mixtures, which implements GHS standard and REACH-like chemical regulation together in its national law.

As required under Decree 57/2019, Chile will gradually roll out registration schemes for substances and mixtures of industrial and non-industrial use from 2024-2029. The initial registration period for industrial hazardous substances has commenced on February 9, 2024 and ended on September 30, 2024.
