Published on February 14, 2022, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is consulting on a draft Indian Standard (IS) for 3,4-dichlorophenyl isocyanate. The deadline for comments is March 16, 2022.
3,4-Dichlorophenylisocyanate is an organic compound used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is irritant to tissues, including eyes and mucous membranes. Inhaling dust from the chemical may result in respiratory harm.
This standard prescribes the requirements, methods of sampling and test for 3,4- dichlorophenylisocyanate, with reference to the following two standards:
IS 5299: 2001 methods of sampling and tests for dye intermediates; and
IS 5762: 1970 methods for determining melting points and ranges.
The substance shall be packed in suitable drums, tankers, ISO containers etc., as agreed between purchaser and supplier. Each container shall be securely closed and shall bear the following information:
Name of manufacturer and his recognized trade-mark, if any;
Month and year of manufacture;
Lot or batch number;
Net weight and gross weight;
Label: Acute Toxic, Irritant and Health Hazard; and
Any other statutory requirement.
Once the draft is approved, products conforming to the requirements of this standard could be certified with the BIS and be marked with the Standard Mark.
