Taiwan to Establish Labeling Requirements for Food Contact Materials

On April 19, 2016, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) stipulated the “Labeling Requirements for Food Utensils, Food Containers and Packages”, which will be formally implemented from July 1, 2017.


On April 19, 2016, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) stipulated the “Labeling Requirements for Food Utensils, Food Containers and Packages”, which will be formally implemented from July 1, 2017.

It is stipulated in the new regulation that food utensils, food containers or packages manufactured from July 1, 2017 shall be labeled with the phrase “for use in food contact materials” or words with equivalent meanings.

Food utensils, food containers or packages containing plastic materials in the food contact surface require labeling for both disposable and reusable products. Food utensils, food containers or packages containing PVC or PVDC in the food contact surface shall be indicated with warnings “do not contact directly with foods subject to high temperature treatment and/or high fat content” or equivalent sentences.
