Taiwan Imposes Mandatory Labeling Requirements on Third Batch of Plastic Food Container Products

On 10 June 2013, Taiwan’s Department of Health (DoH) released an Announcement (Shu-Shou-Shi-Tzu No. 1021301138) that the reusable plastic food containers, including plates, bowls and dishes will be labelled in accordance with the provisions of Article 18 of the Act Governing Food Sanitation since 10 June 2014.

This is the third batch of food container products required to comply with labelling rules. The other two batches were published by DoH Announcement Shu-Shou-Shi-Tzu No. 1001301215 on  21 July 2011, stipulated as (1) reusable plastic bottles (or cups), feeding bottles, and lunch boxes (including crispers) (2) disposable plastic food utensils, containers and packages. The effective date for the first batch is of 21 July 2012, one year later for the second batch.

The details of labeling are specified in the DoH Announcement Shu-Shou-Shi-Tzu No. 1001300545 released on 21 July 2011. The main contents of labeling should include,

  1. Product name.

  2. Material name.

  3. Heat-resisting temperature.

  4. Place of origin (country).

  5. Net weight, capacity, quantity or measurement.
