351 K-REACH PECs’ LRs Elected

On Jul 31st, 2018, South Korea’s chemical authority announced the list of the Priority Existing Chemicals (PECs) for which the leading registrant (LR) have been elected under K-REACH.

Unlike the documents provided previously, this time, the list only details CAS numbers, the English names, and the LR names for 351 PECs and does not detail the status of the PECs, such as whether the dossiers have been submitted or approved by the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER). That’s probably because there has been no change to the information since the last update. Up to Jul 3rd, 2018, the dossiers of 339 PECs have been submitted and 204 of them have been approved.

The grace period of the 510 PECs ended on Jun 30th, 2018. So the 100 PECs that haven’t been registered before the deadline are not allowed to be imported or manufactured until registration is completed. The amended K-REACH will introduce a new registration mechanism from 1st of Jan 2019 and the scope of PECs will be expanded to around 7,000 substances. But the requirements on the 510 PECs remain unchanged.
