17,380 Substances Pre-registered under K-REACH

On April 12, 2023, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) published the updated list of pre-registered substances under K-REACH. As of March 31, 2023, a total of 226,520 pre-registration applications were submitted for 17,380 chemical substances.

South Korea to Allow Non-disclosure of Registration/Notification Number under K-REACH for CBI Concerns

Considering that registration/notification number under K-REACH could be used to search for relevant information that has granted CBI protection under other laws, the MoE proposed to omit the approval process for non-disclosure of the registration/notification number under certain conditions.

South Korea to Update Rules for Using Non-testing Methods (Updated on Sep 30, 2022)

South Korea’s National Institute of Environment Research (NIER) recently opened a public consultation on the draft revision to the Regulation on Registration Application Dossier Preparation, Hazard Evaluation Methods, etc., which specifies non-testing methods for chemical registration under K-REACH and adds new exemption criteria for testing items. The public consultation ended on September 14, 2022.

17,263 Substances Pre-registered under Korea REACH

On March 31, 2022, South Korea's Ministry of Environment (MoE) published the updated list of pre-registered substances under K-REACH. So far, a total of 212,992 pre-registration applications were submitted for 17,263 chemical substances, of which 76 are CMR substances. About 9% of the pre-registered substances are manufactured or imported over 1,000 tonnes per year.

South Korea Simplifies Data Requirements under K-REACH

On March 15, 2022, the South Korean Ministry of Environment (MoE) issued an announcement to bring forward the implementation of some rules that were proposed in the amendments to K-REACH Enforcement Rules. Updated Existing Chemical Hazard Assessment Results Under K-REACH

On February 11, 2022, the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) issued NIER Announcement No.2022-10, making public the hazard evaluation results of 30 existing chemical substances (Given number as 2022-170~2022-199) that were registered and reviewed under K-REACH from January to March 2021. 28 of these substances are toxic.

K-REACH New Requirements for Supply Chain Communication

On August 27, 2021, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) issued a notice for the changes of Article 20 of the Act on Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals (a.k.a. “K-REACH”) and Article 36 of the K-REACH Enforcement Rules, aiming to clarify the method of information transmission and simplify the information required to transfer to downstream links for some chemical substances. The revision took effect immediately.
