Taiwan to Revise New and Existing Chemical Registration Fees

On 17 September 2020, Taiwan EPA issued a proposed revision to the Standard on Toxic Chemical Substances Handling Application Fee and Chemical Registration Fee. It is now subject to a period of public consultation lasting 60 days.

Taiwan Updates Toxic Chemical Substance List
Sep 18, 2020
In response to international management trends of dicofol, on September 18, 2020, Taiwan EPA listed Dicofol into the Toxic Chemical Substance List (TCSL) as Class 1, 3 toxic chemical and implemented a blanket ban on it. In addition, the management on several POPs that were previously listed as toxic chemical were tightened.

Taiwan to Extend Registration Deadline of 106 PECs

In view of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the chemical industry, Taiwan’s Toxic and Chemical Substance Bureau (TCSB), after multiple discussions, has decided to extend the registration deadline for the 106 PECs for at least one year.

Taiwan to Restrict Imports of Products Containing Mercury

On August 26th, the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) issued a notice announcing restrictions on the import of products containing mercury from January 1st, 2021. The products that will be restricted include switches, relays, non-electronic measuring devices such as barometers, hygrometers, manometers, sphygmomanometers, etc.

Taiwan to Regulate Nitrous Oxide as Concerned Chemicals

Nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) is commonly used in semiconductor industry, used as anaesthetic in medical surgeries, used as a propellant for whipped cream, etc. It has become a moderately popular recreational drug at nightspots, parties and hotels. To prevent teenage from use and misuse of nitrous oxide, Taiwan EPA proposed to regulate nitrous oxide as the first concerned chemicals.

Taiwan Starts Annual Reporting of Registered New and Existing Substances
Apr 03, 2020
Annual reporting of the registered new and existing chemical substances is a new post-registration requirement in Taiwan. According to the Article 24 of the revised Regulations of New and Existing Chemicals Registration, the registrant shall report annually through the IT system between April 1 to September 30, including the registrant information, registration number, and last year’s volume of manufacture or importation.
