On July 24, 2024, the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care issued a notice, announcing that the business registration is now open in the AICIS Business Services portal for the upcoming registration year (1 Sep 2024 ~ 31 Aug 2025).
Under the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019, if enterprises plan to import or manufacture industrial chemicals for commercial purposes in Australia, they shall register with AICIS prior to the introduction (import or manufacture). They shall register their business, not products or chemicals. The AICIS business registration requirement applies to sole traders and individuals, as well as anyone manufacturing or importing containers or products that release industrial chemicals. Involved products include:
Adhesive and sealant products,
Apparel and footwear care products,
Explosive products,
Fuel, oil, fuel oil additives and related products,
Lubricant and grease products,
Paint and coating products, etc.
A list of involved product descriptions and examples is available here.
If enterprises have registered with AICIS for the last registration year (1 Sep 2023 ~ 31 Aug 2024) and have plan to continue importing or manufacturing industrial chemicals after August 31, 2024, it’s time to renew the registration for 2024-2025. Notably, from September 1, 2024, AICIS fees and charges to industrial chemical introducers will change, along with introduction value thresholds across most registration levels (Read more).
