Brazil Advances Bill to Cap Lead in Paints and Surface Coatings

Brazil’s Congress has approved a bill that would ban paints and similar coatings containing 90 ppm or more of lead, with exemptions for certain industrial and marine paints.

Brazil's Congress has moved forward with Bill 3,428/2023, a proposal that sets a maximum allowable lead content in paints and similar surface coating materials. The bill was approved by the Plenary on June 2, 2026, and is now awaiting presidential sanction.
