China Consults on Standard Testing Methods for Dangerous Goods Transport Packaging

China’s National Standardization Technical Committee of Packaging is currently soliciting public comments on the draft standard “GB/T XXXXX-XXXX Packaging - Transport packaging for dangerous goods - Test methods”. Comments period will be due by August 24, 2024.

This draft standard adopts the international standard ISO 16495: 2022, and its content on testing content aligns with the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model Regulations (Rev. 23) (hereinafter referred to as the UN Model Regulations). It provides the requirements and testing methods for transport packaging for dangerous goods, and clarifies the test items that packaging, intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and large packaging need to undergo. In line with the UN Model Regulations, dangerous goods transport packaging that passes the corresponding tests can obtain the UN Markings.

The scope of test methods for dangerous goods transport packaging covered by this draft standard is comprehensive and applicable to multimodal transport. In this regard, ChemLinked would like to remind relevant enterprises, especially those involved in import and export, to further track the progress of this draft standard and be well prepared for compliance in terms of dangerous goods packaging. ChemLinked will also keep an eye on this issue. Please stay tuned.
