Since Aug 1st 2014, China’s National Standard on Polyurethane Waterproofing Coating (GB/T 19250-2013) has been effective. The new standard was issued on Nov 27th 2013 and replaced the previous GB/T 19250-2003.
Polyurethane (PU) waterproof coating has advantages such as high tensile strength, malleability during shaping. PU is used widely in China to build roofs, interior decoration, bridges, rail transit and other industries. It occupies the second largest share of the waterproof coating market and has been growing rapidly. The former standard failed to meet the practical requirements and demands of the industry.
Major technical revisions of the new standard are as follows:
The classification of products is revised. PU waterproof coatings are categorized into 3 new types according to their applications and properties. The technical requirements are also adjusted.
The environmental requirements are added.
The concentration limits of hazardous substances are added to protect human health.
The application scope of the standard is expanded.
Some new test methods are added, including basic properties and quality testing. The previous methods have also been improved.
The properties that have to be tested include: solid content, levelling property, tensile property, cohesive strength, combustion performance, rigidity, abrasion resistance, impact resistance and so on.
