China to Designate 11 Chemicals as Toxic and Hazardous Water Pollutants

Enterprises involved in 11 chemicals may face stricter and more frequent environmental supervision by the MEE.

On August 4, 2023, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) opened a public consultation on the Draft List of Toxic and Hazardous Water Pollutants (2nd Batch) (hereinafter referred to as the Draft List). It includes 11 types of chemicals. Among them, 9 are organic chemicals and 2 are heavy metals and inorganic compounds (see table below). Comments are welcome before September 5, 2023.
