GB 28480-2012 Has Taken Effects from 1 May for Restricting Heavy Metals in Jewelry

GB 28480-2012, Adornment-Provision for the limit of baneful elements, is China’s first national standard for restricting hazardous metals, such as nickel, arsenic, mercury, lead, cadmium, chromium, etc., in jewelry and ornaments and has just come into force since 1 May 2013 (see Chemlinked news on 8 Jan). Manufacturers need to be well aware of specific limitations prescribed so that products will not fail the supervisors’ spot check or examination.

Since its implementation, products that have been in circulation are given one year grace period to comply with this new standard.

Manufacturers of children’s adornment are also required to indicate on labels that the products are for children.
