India DCPC Abolishes Quality Control Orders for 6 Fatty Acids

Manufacturers are no longer required to apply for BIS certification for these 6 chemicals

On October 22, 2025, India's Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals announced to abolish the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for 6 chemicals with immediate effect.

This decision rescinds the notification relating to QCOs for the following 6 chemicals issued in 2022:

DCPC stated that the withdrawl is deemed necessary to meet the public interest after consulting with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

With the withdrawal of these QCOs, manufacturers will no longer need to obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards or ensure their products bear the Standard Mark.

Background

The Lauric Acid, Acid Oil, Palm Fatty Acid, Rice Bran Fatty Acid, Coconut Fatty Acid, and Hydrogenated Rice Bran Fatty Acids(Quality Control) Orders were originally issued in April 2022. These QCOs mandated that manufacturers of these chemicals obtain BIS certification, ensuring that the products met specific Indian Standards.

The implementation dates for these QCOs have seen several postponements since their initial notification. For instance, the latest enforcement dates was extended until October 24, 2025.
