India Implements Quality Control Orders for Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarn

The QCO shall mandate the manufacturer of the polyester yarn to apply for Grant of License by Bureau of Indian Standard to use the Standard Mark.

On July 18, 2024, India's Department of Chemical and Petrochemicals (DCPC) published the Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarn (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024 on the gazette of India. The Quality Control Order (QCO) for Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarn shall take effect from July 18, 2024.

As per amendment “Low Melt Polyester Yarn” shall be exempted from the QCO scope. According to the fourth amendment of Indian Standard (IS) 17261:2022 Textile-Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarns - Specification, Low Melt Polyester Yarn is defined as having a minimum melting point of 110°C.

The orders shall not apply to chemicals for export only (click here to see more about exemption). Each chemical shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard (IS 17261:2022 in this case) and be marked with BIS Standard Mark after obtaining BIS product certification license, as specified in Scheme I of Schedule II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
