On Mar 24, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Environment (MOE) announced the addition of 136 substances to the List of Substances Exempted from Notification, which now contains 2431 substances in total.
“Substances exempt from notification” are substances out of the scope of the items defined under Article 2(2) and Article 3 of Chemical Substance Control Law (CSCL), and they’re recognized as not necessary to carry out the risk assessment as referred to in Article 2(5). In accordance with Article 8, they do not require annual notification of the production/import quantity, manufacturing sites, etc. regardless of the actual tonnage accumulated in the preceding fiscal year.
